Boat Construction and Restoration

Restoration
Many people these days don’t just dream about an idyllic retirement where they buy an old craft and “do it up”; they actively decide to do something about it. Martham Boats provides an extensive building and repair service and all our staff are fully experienced in traditional wooden boat building methods. We are also almost unique in offering a well-established and professionally supervised facility for the DIY enthusiast. Literally everything is available from materials, lifting gear, marine hardwoods, paints and fixings to one off items. Our sheds are equipped with industrial power woodworking machinery which enables us to form, cut and trim timber to your exact specification.

The Restoration of Maggie Jane
This Broads Cruiser was originally built by Martham Boats in 1952. Judith IV, as she was then know, cruised the Norfolk Broads for many years as part of our hire fleet. In 1984, she was sold to a gentleman from Kent, who re-named her Maggie Jane after his wife. After 8 years she was then re-sold to a local man in Stalham. After a couple of years Maggie Jane became to expensive to maintain and she was brought home to us here at Martham where she stayed in our graveyard deteriorating rapidly. In the winter of 2000, she was taken on by a retired couple who over many years, lovingly restored her to her former glory. Maggie Jane was re-launched on 12th May 2007.
