Wildlife - Norfolk Broads

Come see the Norfolk Broads
Wildlife

The Norfolk Broads are made up of several lakes which intertwine with many rivers and dykes. The marshes these Broads provide are an important habitat for many different types of wildlife from butterflies and birds to insects, watervoles and plant life.

Hickling Broad is the largest of the Norfolk Broads. Make sure you bring your binoculars as here you will find many rare species including the beautiful Swallowtail Butterfly, Marsh Harrier, Norfolk Hawker Dragonfly, Leopard Reed Moth and the elusive Bittern.

The Norfolk Broads are a haven for bird life and from the various bird hives situated around the Broads many twichers have seen Bearded Reedlings, Coots, Snipes, Redshanks, Sedges, Reed Warblers and the Great Crested Grebe either flying overhead or in amongst the reeds.

Whether travelling on foot or by boat, our pretty countryside will show you many varieties of wild flowers that you would not normally see at home. These include the cuckoo flower, lily, loosestrife and willow herb.
